We found out from the included inspection sheet that my rifle was made in 2012 and, if memory serves, in June. Hello,I'm sportshooter in New cal. May be the importer. Do you know if the rifle was shipped directly from China, or from France or from Australia? Your receiver was manufactured in December 1993 but the rifle was assembled in China in 2009.Is the engraved number 200981000 or 20098100?I've been collecting Chinese M14 rifle serial numbers and 'lotto' numbers (numbers below the stock) for several years. I don't share who has what.

I collect the numbers strictly for research purposes. It is beginning to pay off. The rifle that appears to have been made just before yours at the factory (below the stock numbers 3 12 40 321) was exported as a Poly Technologies rifle in 2009. Both Poly Technologies and Norinco M14 rifles are made at the same factory in China, State Arsenal 356. Poly Technologies and Norinco are the export firms in China. Hi differeent, thank for the infosYou right, number is 2009 81 00as long i know, it have being imported in New cal from France. No more information.Based on that, do you have more info about the make o fthe barrel, twist and other? The receiver look machined but from a raw cast partThank you for the update. The Chinese M14 receivers were machined from forgings of equivalent AISI 8620 alloy steel.

The factory barrel is made from equivalent AISI 1050 carbon steel and chambered for the 7.62 mm NATO cartridge. I have and can share the metallurgy lab report on the Chinese barrel, if you like. The factory barrel has a twist rate of 1:12. You can download my book, M14 Rifle History and Development, for free at. See Part 2 of that book for information on Chinese M14 rifles. Hi Different,I hope this helps here is my Norinco Info, side stamped under the elevation knobNORINCO M305 SEMI AUTO.308WIN.20121527-12-356 CN 12 CALower serial number under the stock: 4 8 56 28 30On the trigger assembly it is stamped '1527'which sort of matches part of the receivers number '20121527'sorry I am a little confused how do you tell the year it was made? This rifle was purchased new in box from Williams Arms in Ontario CanadaCeeJay, this is very helpful, thank you!

Starting in 2009, Chinese M14 rifles have the standardized serial number format as shown on your rifle. From what I've been able to find out, Canada adopted the United Nations regulation concerning markings for imported firearms. I have read the UN regulation but haven't looked at it recently. Here is what the code means:2012xxxx = (year of assembly and) serial number12 = year of export (my guess)356 = State Arsenal 356, the manufacturerCN = China, country of export12 = year of importCA = imported legally into CanadaYour receiver was manufactured though in August 1994. The number on the trigger housing is likely intended to match the rifle serial number, my guess.Do you know if Williams Arms is a licensed importer? I believe some of the Canadian gun shops buy from the importers for retail sale.

Set me straight if I'm wrong on that. Hi Different, thanks.I have already downloaded your book. But as it's not a 308 caliber, it's not easy to sort outThe caliber of my rifle is 7-08 rem as stamped on the receiver, then, is it 1 in 12? I assume this twist is more for the 308?As the receiver is stamped with the calibe rI have supposed that the rifle had being built as 7-08 rem instead to be rebarrelled later for the purpose of the French civilian market.Good point regarding the caliber.

I'm used to 7.62mm NATO /.308 Winchester chambering for M14 type rifles. You're correct, the information above applies to 7.62 mm NATO chambered Chinese barrels. Does your barrel have a chromium plated chamber and bore? I don't know what the twist rate is, great question. The only thing I can think of is to contact a gun dealer in France who sells Chinese M14 rifles to ask the question. I don't speak French, unfortunately. I think it should be as the common 7mm barrel, 1 in 9.5 or 1 in 10.i will mesure.

I thought that as the receiver was stamped, it could be a factory make.I don't know about the quality of the barrel. I will investigate through one of the former owner, but sometime, people just say what they think you would like to heard. That why it's sometime difficult to go in deep for reference information. If i make a short conclusion, i could tell my rifle is a polytech, built in China in 2009?thanks again for your information.in another way, do you have heard about short magnum chambering (7wsm, saum) in M14. Any reference could help.
